An average 20-minute steam shower uses less than one gallon of water, whereas a jetted tub can use 40 gallons or more and a 10-minute shower can use up to 25 gallons.

The SimpleSteam Kit comes with the essential components you need for a steam shower: the generator (available in a variety of sizes), an on/off control that also adjusts temperature, and a square steam head. The kit is available in three Delta finishes: Lumicoat^® Chrome, Lumicoat^® Stainless, and Matte Black.

The SteamScape Classic System package comes with two of the three essential components for a steam shower: the control and steam head. The steam generator must be ordered separately. The control and steam head are available in round or square designs, and you can choose from seven Delta bath collection finishes. In addition to on/off and temperature adjustment, the control features two user presets to control the temperature and duration of your steam shower. An optional exterior control is also available, so you can turn the steam on/off and select a user preset before you step inside the shower.

Both the SteamScape Classic and Deluxe System packages come with two of the three essential components for a steam shower—the control and steam head—in seven Delta bath collection finishes, but they provide different features and options. The SteamScape Classic System control and steam head are available in round or square designs. The control allows you to turn the steam on/off, adjust the temperature, and activate two user presets to control the temperature and duration of your steam shower. An optional exterior control is also available, so you can turn the steam on/off and select a user preset before you step inside the shower.

The SteamScape Deluxe System features a digital interface with three separate user-defined profiles with four presets each (12 total). The presets control temperature, duration, and audio with the optional audio add-on. It also includes built-in Wi-Fi with connectivity to the DFC@Home^™ app and other Bluetooth devices. Voice-activated functionality may be enabled through a virtual home assistant. The steam head is available in two designs: contemporary square with 360-degree steam dispersion or unilateral, which directs steam downward.
 

The following accessories are available to complement a SteamScape Series steam shower: 

• Exterior Control (SteamScape Classic only) to activate the steam bath from outside the steam shower space
• Audio Speaker System (SteamScape Deluxe only) with Bluetooth-enabled audio speakers to play soothing music or listen to your favorite podcast
• Shower Seats (all Delta steam shower systems) for inside the steam shower space in a wall-mounted, foldable design
   

The size and construction details of your steam shower enclosure determine what size generator you need. Use the Delta Steam Configuration Tool to figure out which generator is the ideal size for your space. The tool will also guide you through the available style and finish options as well as add-ons, such as an external control, audio speaker system, and shower seat. 

The Auto Drain and Generator Pan are not required, but they provide valuable benefits. The auto drain purges water from the system after each use to help minimize the potential for mineral buildup inside the generator. It’s recommended for areas with hard water concerns. A generator pan is placed under the generator to provide protection from potential leaks. It may also be required by local code. These components may be purchased separately or as a package. 

The generator is the heart of the steam shower, and its job is to heat water to the boiling point. After water flows through the water line into the steam generator, an electric heating element raises the temperature of the water to its boiling point, creating steam. The steam travels through a pipe from the generator into the shower enclosure, where it is released from the steam head.

A steam shower uses moist heat, whereas a sauna uses dry heat. Steam showers operate at a temperature of around 100–115°F with roughly 95-100 percent humidity. Saunas operate at much higher temperatures than steam showers do, generally 160–194°F in the U.S. with only 5-10 percent humidity.

While the size of the enclosure depends on your available space, a one-person steam shower should have an enclosure that is at least 3’ x 3’ x 7’.
