Life at home has changed a lot and for many people, being “on trend” has taken a backseat as more people are designing around their needs. Our Delta designers and Delta Faucet company lighting partner, Kichler, share the kitchen and bathroom trends they’re seeing in real customer’s homes that have a timeless quality and will last past the next trip around the sun.

Trend 1: Comfort Comes First

“Homes are our safe space from what’s happening in the world, so the items, colors and finishes need to reflect that feeling of relaxed comfort.” - AJ Tentler, Delta Faucet Company industrial designer and NKBA Thirty Under 30 winner

Sharp edges and harsh lines are out. We’re now craving an oasis of calm, relaxing spaces. Warm greys and wood in its natural state are coming together, in both kitchens and bathrooms, to create a space that never feels forced.

Trend 2: Hidden Helpfulness

“The features or tech that have gained the most momentum…are things that aid your daily function. Now it’s more about hidden helpfulness.” - Maris Park Borris, Delta Faucet Company’s Color, Material & Finish (CMF)/Trend Specialist and Industrial Designer

Simple interactions that make daily life easier is the future of technology. Intuitive technology, like Touch2O® Technology, turns on water with a simple touch which is just one example of unseen technology that actually improves everyday life.

Trend 3: Design You Can Feel

“We've been in sensory deprivation for the last year. People are craving both visual and physical texture.” - Maris Park Borris, Delta Faucet Company’s CMF/Trend Specialist and Industrial Designer

“From matte to gloss, and we’re also seeing textured white finishes on the rise.” - Greg Martin, Creative Director at Kichler® Lighting

Texture and finish is going to be more in focus than ever. Wallpaper that adds a tactile and visual texture, or finishes like the knurling on the Galeon faucet, can help create an emotional connection that has a huge impact on a space.

Trend 4: Mix and Match

“We can add eclecticism and our own style—like traditional knobs in a modern kitchen.” - Maris Park Borris, Delta Faucet Company’s CMF/Trend Specialist and Industrial Designer

We’re all searching for ways to make a space our own, mixing and matching both styles and finishes is a unique way to do that. Farmhouse, blended with Scandinavian styles. Champagne Bronze shower head with matte black framed doors. It’s all about what speaks to you.

Trend 5: Timelessly Tailored

“We see this in clothing too. We aren’t buying new designer clothes, we want vintage clothing that has a story behind it to create their own.” - Maris Park Borris, Delta Faucet Company CMF/Trend Specialist and Industrial Designer

“In 2022, customizable sconces are on the rise. Being able to have moveable arms, pin-up and plug in options so you can curate your own look” - Greg Martin, Creative Director at Kichler Lighting

Tailored, curated, and customized pieces are everywhere. We no longer want to keep up with the Jones, we want unique spaces that reflect our individual style. Updates that people can do themselves make homes feel more customized and ownable are more popular than ever.

Trend 6: Outside In

“There’s a feeling of connection and warmth that’s derived from the coziness and luxury of plants.” - Ben Stoler, Delta Faucet Company industrial designer and NKBA Thirty Under 30 winner

Plants have a purifying quality and make a space feel fresh and alive. Adding greenery can add a calming and de-stressing feeling to a room.

Trend 7: Mood Matching

“People are looking for either a muted color pallet for comfort, warmth, and a feeling of safety. Or, they are opting for bright colors which give energy and inspire.” - AJ Tentler, Delta Faucet Company industrial designer and NKBA Thirty Under 30 winner

Designing for a mood is on the rise. We know color has an effect on how we act and feel in a space, and we’re all paying more attention to the impact we want to have.

“The most lasting trends are forever. They’re timeless. They’re personal. They’re your own.” - Maris Park Borris, Delta Faucet Company CMF/Trend Specialist and Industrial Designer

The trends that will last longest in your home are the ones that enhance your daily life. That’s why we look at real homes when we look to the future of design and innovation.
